The 16th National Disabled Veterans' Winter Sports Clinic is being held at Snowmass, Colorado. Challenge Aspen, the disabled skiing program at Aspen, is the host program.
The weather on arrival is warm -- 70° -- and the snow is all but gone from the lower part of the mountain. I arrived on Saturday, April 6, and wandered around the village in shorts, sandals, and Aloha shirt. I was not alone in my attire. I'm staying with a couple of friends: Ted Holmes and Rick Stone.

The Winter Park crew was pretty well represented again this year with Ted, Chuck, Steve, Rick, Bob, Butch, Barb, Linda, and Archie. We started Sunday with breakfast at Brothers' Grille and then off to the Ski Instructor's Meeting. Clinics for the day started with a mountain tour followed by an overview of the new Mogul Master 2 ski. Looks great! I can't wait to ski it.
Actually, this piece of equipment is used
to provide "balast" in an "empty" bi-ski. Having
her in the ski allows for training sessions using a single person. This
"balast" weighs in at about 80lbs. Challenge Aspen is the hosting program. Houston
is the program director and he and his team worked very hard to bring
all of the pieces together for the coming week. The Challenge Aspen
team assigned all of the instructors to students and we are all getting
accustomed to the resort and Peter, my clinic leader for the morning, gets ready to show us the mountain. He is getting strapped into his monoski. Pete is a PSIA examiner for Adaptive. I'm looking forward to a good tour!
Here's the clinic...spread out on the mountain. I didn't get into the picture, but Oh Well! The weather stayed pretty warm...around 60°...with the snow fairly crunchy on top and slushy towards the base. But....John graciously offered to take my picture and have LT pose with me. So here it is. LT's boyfriend is blind (glass eyes) from an accident...prompting her to pursue skiing as a guide for the Visually Impaired.
This reggae band (SNOB) played in the mall for all to enjoy. We each received a ticket for an entree from the various restaurants at Snowmass Village.
